Ultima Pietra

2020 Merito

750ml
100% Merlot

Merlot 2020 was a magical vintage—shy at the beginning but evolving with an unexpected juiciness and gorgeous watermelon notes. It is a wine that can be appreciated now in its youth thanks to the attractive florality and fruitiness. However, the depth, structure, energy and vigor signal a wine whose ultimate beauty and complexity will be reserved for those who have the patience to wait for it.

Tasting Notes

Tasting: the acidity and tannicity together give the mouth an incredibly juicy sensation—like biting into fruit.

Mouth feel is harmonious, ripe, creamy magnetic.

The floral component is present but more minor, the character is fruitiness, watermelon again, ripe strawberry, cherry, and an inviting blood orange—the sweet and light bitter taste make the aftertaste truly magnetic. The wood component is present but contributes more to structure than aromatics.

2019 Merito

750ml
100% Cabernet Franc

A very special micro-lot…just one gently toasted new barrique representing our inaugural 2019 vintage.

“The wine was very shy for the first year, but then appeared a clear identity, charm, and unexpected nature. Born a duckling but became a white swan. Grapes picked on a sunny morning, fermented by native yeast, racked, and pressed almost one month after harvest. The wine slept for 20 months in a single barrique”

Ultima Pietra

2019 Rosso

750ml
Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon Blend

The most authentic expression of the young Ultima Pietra estate, a warm blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon aged in a single large cask.

“The three varieties were picked and fermented separately then combined right after the end of fermentation. We were very eager to see how it turned out, a few months after the first winter, the wine was showing a very delicate soul. The ripeness of the grapes has been carved in the elegance and complexity, more than in the explosivity, is a wine that plays the oboe in a world of drummers, and we couldn’t be more happy.”

Tasting Notes

The nose is a chorus of fresh strawberry, but quickly more subtle, complex shades emerge – blood orange, coffee, and pipe tobacco. The structure and gustatory stratification are elongated by vibrant acidity. Currant, mulberry, rose, and juiciness begin the gustatory analysis, and continue to licorice, toasting, and spices.

Ultima Pietra

2020 Chardonnay

750ml
100% Chardonnay

Sometimes reason doesn’t explain everything and we must listen when a place inexplicably transmits something. Margot listened, and planted a small amount of Chardonnay here, noting that this a demanding grape, requiring a cooler climate. But grown on the north side of the estate, the coolest location, it has revealed itself to be a beautiful wine.

So much so, they may plant a second hectare of it. Very enveloping, elegant bouquet with explicit and balanced references to oak. Respectful approach to the taste with minerality and lovely acidic vivacity. Fusion of the extractive component from the oak will be enjoyed over time as well as the inviting and always explicit saline component.

Tasting Notes

It's fresh on the nose, beautiful aromas of lemon zest, apricot, sage with a minerality. The sip is the quintessence of grace: freshness, marine salinity and flint define the framework of the wine. A light and sweet note of chestnut honey and ripe apricot satisfy the palate. The perception evolves in both an exciting and serious stimuli: fir resin, white pepper and sage reawaken the fumee. A tense mouth, savoury and complex make this wine at the same time gentle, velvety, and sharp.
